SANDAG REPORT: CRIME UP IN EVERY CATEGORY

A new report shows crime is spiking across the board in Encinitas and begs the question, does our mayor even care about crime?

Published by SANDAG, the “Crime in the San Diego Region Mid-Year 2020 Statistics” report shows violent crimes have skyrocketed 58 percent during the past year. Property crimes are up 17 percent during that one-year period and index crime is up 22 percent. Index Crimes include homicide, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny, and motor vehicle theft.

All of this during the watch of a mayor who has shown support for defunding law enforcement efforts. My opponent has campaigned on claims that crime is down in Encinitas. The disturbing data presented in the SANDAG report tells a much different story.

This is one reason why the Deputy Sheriffs’ Association has endorsed me for mayor.  They know I’ll be tough on crime.  Vote for Julie Thunder for Mayor of Encinitas.

THURSDAY: REMEMBERING MAGGIE HOULIHAN

Encinitas City Council campaigns past and present – and how a former mayor confronted fractious politics – is the topic of the Encinitas Viewpoint webinar at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 15.

Author Ian Thomson will discuss his book, “An Inconvenient Voice: One Woman’s Fight Against Injustice.” The book tells the story of his wife, the late Maggie Houlihan, who died of cancer in 2011 at age 63. Maggie served on the council for 11 years and was mayor twice, in 2004 and 2009.

CANDIDATE FORUMS WRAP UP
Did you see last night’s forum hosted by The Coast News? The topic was toxicity in local campaigns and the paper’s “Clean Campaign Pledge”. Candidates spent more than two hours trading verbal jabs about one another’s behavior. The paper’s pledge is the centerpiece of exhaustive coverage. In my opinion, readers, voters – and everyone else – would be best served by discourse and coverage that sticks to the issues. You can see for yourself.

MIDDLE GROUND IS GOOD FOR ME
I am a registered No Party Preference Voter. In my mind, the values and priorities of a candidate matter far more than her party affiliation. That’s why I am disgusted by unsigned materials that attempt to place me on the far right.

My position is in the middle — where it belongs in a nonpartisan, local office and where I will be best suited to serve all Encinitas residents. My endorsements show support from community leaders from across the spectrum. They understand that I stay clear of party politics. Governing Encinitas is my No. 1 priority.
If you have questions or would like to meet, simply reply to this email. I look forward to a conversation with you and the opportunity to hear your ideas and concerns.

Sincerely,
Julie Thunder
Candidate for Mayor of Encinitas

Introduction to Julie Thunder
(The Thunder family in 1994)
Thirty-five years ago, my husband and I chose Encinitas as our forever home. We made sacrifices to live here and raise our four daughters here. But it’s worth it to us because Encinitas is a special place filled with amazing people.
My husband isn’t the only boy in the house!
