IS OUR TOWN FOR SALE?
PACs ARE SPENDING TO KEEP THE STATUS QUO
With more than $85,000 in their combined war chests, a Facebook executive and three out-of-town developers are spending big to keep the status quo on the Encinitas City Council. They have formed two political action committees PACs), each with a stated purpose to keep the incumbents in office.
PAC #1:  NORTH COUNTY ACTION NETWORK
 War Chest:  $55,000
Facebook VP Michael Verdu and his wife, Paula, are the sole contributors to their North County Action Network PAC. They are spending $55,000 to keep the mayor and council in office. Do they fancy themselves kingmakers
PAC #2: CONSERVE NORTH COUNTY
 Developers’ War Chest:  $30,000
Conserve North County, the PAC started by local attorney Marco Gonzalez, includes three developers, none of which live in Encinitas:
   1. Michael Cohen Perez of San Diego (Sunshine Gardens property);
   2. Larry Jackal of Solana Beach (Roberto’s site on N. Coast Hwy. 101);
   3. John Kratzer of Austin, Texas (Encinitas Beach Hotel, under construction above Ponto Beach).
WHAT DO THEY EXPECT IN RETURN?
The combined $85,000 in PAC money is the equivalent of 340 individual donations, which are capped at $250.

Do you think they have our best interests in mind?  What favors will they expect in return?  We can conclude they are not looking to preserve neighborhoods and put residents first.

Just say NO to big money trying to buy our town.
